WHO WE ARE: STACEY FAGAN

Sisters

“Don’t be afraid to take up space and speak up for yourself and what you believe in.”

Q: What does being a sister mean to you in 2020?

A: To me, being a sister means showing up and giving support and love however I can. It means more communication and listening and especially being nonjudgmental.

Q: How have the injustices against the black community impacted your view of family?

A: The injustices against the black community have made it extremely hard to want to build a family. I struggle to believe that my future kids will be safe in this country, how do I raise children in a society that still sees the color of their skin as a threat.

Q: How do you feel being a black woman in the world today?

A: As empowered as I feel being a black woman in the world today, I still feel uneasy especially with the outward racism we’ve seen in this year alone.

We are celebrated now more than ever which is a beautiful thing to witness and be apart of, we are coming together more and as far as in my personal experience building each other up despite our differences.

We also have more representation of all our shades and hairstyles in media, there are more black women in places of power today that it’s hard not to feel inspired and empowered.
