I reached out to a few professional bassists that I work with often for beginner bass suggestions and I landed on Squire being the best place to start in regards to pricing and quality. Squire makes great basses and they have a great price range on their basses. I’ve included a link to a music site I used very often for purchasing instruments and music gear.

If the plan is to still also work on drumming, I believe this kit is a great starter option. Questlove is an incredible drummer who created this kit to be portable and take up a smaller footprint while still being a top quality instrument. I will supply his first pair of drumsticks (if he doesn’t still have them from his previous drum set).
